Term Definition
Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) A standards organization creating standards for medical devices
Channel Umbrella object in the object model that groups together physiological measurement data and data derived from these data. (IEE 11073-10201 DIM)
Domain Information Model (DIM) In IEEE 11073 specifically, it is the model specified by IEEE 11073-10201.
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) International standards group, which, among many other things, creates safety, effectiveness, and security standards for medical devices.
Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) An international standards “profiling” organization (ISO/TC 215 Liaison A)
International Standards Organization (ISO) Broad standards group. It collaborates with IEC and with IEEE In issuing medical device standards.
Medical Device Communications (MDC) The series title for the entire IEEE 11073 series of standards and its technologies.
MDC Nomenclature A code system embodied in the IEEE-10101 Medical Device Communictions Nomenclature standard, created to comprehensively identify by numeric codes measurements, devices, device components, and other objects in device models, and other data items related to medical device technology.
Rosetta Terminology Mapping (RTM) A superset of the IEEE Medical Device Communications Nomenclature which the IHE RTM Committee uses as a record of the IEEE 11073-10101 MCD Nomenclature and a testing ground for emerging terminologies such as ventilation, infusion pumps and events from all classes of medical devices intended to be used in IHE Connectations and balloted in the IEEE 11073 Point-of-Care WG.
Rosetta Terminology Mapping Management System (RTMMS) A web-based system created by US National Institute of Standards and Technology as an online reference for IEEE 11073 and RTM Terminology.
Service-oriented Device Connectivity (SDC) Family of ISO/IEEE/CEN 11073 device interoperability standards (see TC215 WG2)
Service-oriented Device Point-of-care Interoperability (SDPi) IHE Devices profiles using SDC & FHIR (and HL7 V2)
Virtual Medical Device (VMD) An abstract representation of a medical-related subsystem of a medical device system (MDS) (DIM Standard)
