An advance healthcare directive attester is a person (typically a witness or notary) who formally verifies and confirms that an individual has voluntarily signed an advance healthcare directive—a legal document outlining their wishes for medical treatment if they become unable to communicate those decisions themselves. The attester's role is to authenticate that the directive was executed properly, that the signer appeared competent, and that no undue influence or coercion was involved.
