Specify a set of rules to be applied to HL7 FHIR to define a European standard for representing a Patient Summary
. The standard is intended to facilitate harmonisation among national initiatives and to prepare the ground for the European electronic health record exchange format (EEHRxF) specifications applicable to the “patient summaries” priority category of personal electronic health data, as defined in Article 14 of the EHDS Regulation
.
It is intended to be coherent with the semantic model developed by the Xt-EHR Joint Action
, which refines and further specifies the principles and requirements established by the eHealth Network (eHN) Guideline on the Patient Summary
. As these models evolve, relevant updates are expected to be incorporated into this Implementation Guide to maintain alignment with the EHDS Implementing Acts.

This version of the guide is aligned with, and maps to, the Xt-EHR EHDS Logical Information Models
version 1.0. These models are expected to be replaced by the EHDS logical information models defined under Article 15 of the EHDS Regulation. The dependency and the related mappings will be updated once those models are available.
The Xt-EHR Joint Action
has developed a set of Logical data models (or information models) - see Xt-EHR EHDS Logical Information Models
Implementation Guide - that have been used as basis
for the future European Health Data Space
(EHDS) Implementing Act.

They represent evolving, refined interpretations
of the data sets described in the eHealth Network (eHN) Guidelines
, and are subject to further refinement, including as part of the work towards the specifications required by the EHDS Implementing Act, in particular those concerning the definition and maintenance of the EHDS logical information models referred to in Article 15.
