Codes a receiving system returns to report whether a fact-of-death notification could be matched to a patient record. These codes describe the outcome of the receiver's own matching process; this guide does not specify the matching algorithm itself.

matched Matched The notification was matched to exactly one patient record and has been processed.
no-match No Match No patient record matched the demographics in the notification. The receiver took no action on any patient record.
multiple-candidates Multiple Candidates More than one patient record matched the demographics in the notification and the receiver could not safely select one. No patient record was updated.
pending-manual-review Pending Manual Review The notification was accepted but routed to a human reviewer rather than being applied automatically. A further response may or may not follow.
