The kind of move a patient is being made within the facility. Recorded on the transfer form alongside the destination and the reason, and distinct from both: this says what sort of move it is, which decides whether the bed is held and whether the level of care changes.

CodeDisplayDefinition
ward-transfer Ward transfer A move to another ward at the same level of care. The bed the patient leaves is given up.
escalation Escalation A move to a higher level of care, such as a general ward to high dependency or intensive care, because the patient has deteriorated or needs closer monitoring than the sending ward can give.
de-escalation De-escalation A move to a lower level of care, such as intensive care to high dependency or a general ward, because the patient has improved enough to be nursed with less support.
theatre Theatre A move to an operating theatre for surgery. Temporary: the patient returns to the ward, or to recovery and then the ward, and the bed is held for them.
procedure Procedure A move to a procedure or investigation area for something that cannot be done at the bedside. Temporary in the same way theatre is, and separate from it because it needs no theatre list, no anaesthetic booking and usually no recovery bay.
