Description

NCPT is a standardized terminology that supports the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), a systematic approach used by registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) and nutrition and dietetics technicians, registered (NDTRs) to provide nutrition care. NCPT is organized around the four steps of the NCP; Nutrition Assessment, Nutrition Diagnosis, Nutrition Intervention, and Nutrition Monitoring and Evaluation, and provides standardized terms and a hierarchy to document nutrition care consistently in electronic health records.

NCPT is maintained by the Academy's NCPT Committee and is mapped to SNOMED CT and LOINC to support interoperable, coded documentation of nutrition care.

NCPT is published and made accessible to subscribers through the Academy's electronic Nutrition Care Process Terminology (eNCPT) platform at ncpro.org. eNCPT is the access/delivery platform for NCPT, not a separate terminology.
Arrangements or agreements with HL7 for use of content — None. Use of NCPT codes in HL7 specifications would require an agreement with HL7 and the Academy.
Version management Version information
NCPT content is reviewed on an ongoing basis by the NCPT Committee and republished annually or as needed as a new electronic Nutrition Care Process Terminology (eNCPT) edition (e.g., e2020, e2023). Edition-to-edition additions, revisions, and inactivations are tracked and published as part of each release.
